UICB 50th Anniversary Celebration

The
International Union of Building Centres (UICB) celebrated its 50th year
anniversary in a special event organized at The Building Information Centre in Istanbul.

Managing
directors and other top managers of member companies met in Istanbul to
celebrate the 50th anniversary of the UICB. The event was open to members and
non-members alike and it attracted key people from the construction sector with
certain emphasis on the Turkish construction sector professionals with whom The
Building Information Centre is closely related.
Opening speeches of Dogan
Hasol, chairman of board of The Building Information Centre, who also chaired
UICB twice, and Gunnel Adlercreutz President of The UICB was followed by an
international conference with open participation focusing on the future of the building
business. Three experts in international arena delivered lectures in the Future
of Building Conference where projections on the future of building sector
were conveyed to the leaders of Turkish building sector.
Vincent Cousin, the founder of
Palludio Games in 2005 for production of multimedia documents including games,
enhancing the image of construction activities in the public or for education
and training, was the first lecturer in the Conference. In this lecture he related
to the inter-connected relations between building professionals and their roles
in the building process and how they are modeled in his Building & Co.
video game. He focused on how these relations can be further developed in the
e-age. Secondly, Mathieu Mottrie, who is the Operations Manager of
CREAX, focused on the ways innovation and success methodology implemented in
other areas of profession can be applied to the building sector. The Conference
ended with the lecture of Prof. Sirkka Heinonen, who acts currently as
Professor of Futures Studies at Finland Futures Research Centre (FFRC), Turku
School of Economics. In her lecture Prof. Heinonen conveyed to the audience the
new phenomena which will shape the future of the building sector, in order to
facilitate the relevant decision making process.
After the Conference the
laureate of the UICB Logo Competition was announced. This Competition was held
in order to chose a new logo for the UICB which would reflect the renewed
vision and aims of the union in its 50th anniversary. The winner of the
competition, Murat Bektaş, received his prize from Gunnel Adlercreutz, the president
of the UICB.
